MPAC Strongly Condemn the Gruesome Killing of Shaykh Amzat-Salam's Family

(Lagos, 18/05/2017) The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) today condemns the gruesome killings of Shaykh Yusuf Amzat-Salam, his wife, his four children and two others in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, on 16 May, 2017.

MPAC is asking the Nigeria Police to investigate this crime where citizens were killed with callousness and swiftly bring to justice all individuals who were involved in the senseless tragedy. We once again call on the government to intensify efforts and confront the challenge of merciless killers in our midst.

The Quran condemns this type of violence in plain terms:

"Do not kill yourselves, for verily Allah has been to you most merciful" (Quran 4: 29)

"....take not life which Allah has made sacred" (Quran 6:151)

MPAC offers its condolences to the family and community of the deceased, and in the final days leading to the blessed month of Ramadan, we urge the Muslim community to pray for the souls of the deceased, and for all people to pledge to work to uphold the Quranic value of the sacredness of human life, for believers in God and all people.

At the same time, the MPAC urges the Muslim masses to show restraint and patience in the knowledge that death comes only at the appointed time and the matryed victims of this atrocity will find peace and justice with their Lord.
