MPAC-IDPs Campaign– Falmata Modu
MPAC-IDPs Campaign- Cloths Distribution
On Monday 26th of October, 2015, MPAC and a number of Muslim doctors took medical aids to the IDPs camp at Masaba, FCT Abuja. This special intervention campaign targeted 2000 children under five years and 1000 pregnant or nursing mothers for this campaign as these are the most susceptible groups to outbreaks of infections in malnourished populations.
Our aim was to attempt to mitigate the effect of malnutrition on susceptibility to developing infections and severity.
The specific goals and activities during the medical relief were:
- Administering micro-nutrients and deworming medication (Vitamin A, Zinc, Iron + Folic acid, albendazole) to children under 5 years, nursing and pregnant mothers.
- Give health talks and infection prevention awareness in the camp.
- Conduct need assessment
Medical Coordinators:
The initiators of this campaign were Dr. Abdulkareem Adekitan of the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Center, and Dr. Folake Kofo-Idowu, a PGY-2 Resident at the Department of Internal Medicine, University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore, USA, and Dr. Abdulhakeem Olayinka Ojugbele of the Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja. They generously provided the fund to procure all the medications used in the campaign and fully participated in mobilising efforts and administering the medications to the IDPs at the camp.
MPAC is deeply appreciative to the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) for facilitating the participation of the FCT’s NYSC Corps members in the campaign. We are also thankful to the youth corps members who did a wonderful job at a moment notice.

The purpose of the MPAC intervention campaign in the IDPs camps which started last Ramadan is to bring relief to all the victims and to win hearts and minds. Starting from the last Ramadan, MPAC has been calling on all Muslims to show kindness and mercy towards fellow human beings through generous donations and supports in the form of funds, household/living materials, toys and medications.
MPAC will continue to do all in its capacity to go into the IDPs camps and make a difference in the lives of the people.
