MPAC Totally Condemns The Recent Terrorist Attacks in Egypt
The Muslim Public Affairs Centre totally condemns the recent terrorist attacks in Egypt’s resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh on Saturday in which close to hundred innocent people were killed and up to two hundred innocent people injured in a rapid series of car bombs. This despicable incident is an unacceptable outrage, regardless of who is ultimately held to be responsible, and we condemn it as fundamentally wrong and against all the principles of our holy faith. The MPAC categorically repudiates these cowardly and vicious assaults on civilians and no excuse can be used to justify the immoral acts nor should any pretext be used to fit the criminal act into a political context. MPAC strongly believes that no matter the political and human rights situation in Egypt, which unfortunately has continued to worsen progressively, right is right, and wrong is wrong. This latest act of terrorism is an evil act similar to other civilian murders going on in places like occupied Palestine, Iraq, Chechnya, Uzbekistan and recently in London. MPAC reaffirms our commitment to the principles and true teachings of Islam which abhor aggression, value peace, tolerance and respect as well as prohibit the killing of innocent people. Allah, the Exalted, says: Good and evil are not equal, repulse [evil] with that which is better. You will find the one bearing enmity towards you appear as an intimate friend [Qur’an: 41:34]. We do not believe that disagreement with or opposition to the (foreign)policies of the ruling governments is enough to create a psychology of hate and murder. Obviously only a tangible villain continues to show preference for this militant way of life. We offer our deepest condolences to the families whose near and dear ones have been killed or injured in this gristly incident. We deeply share the shock, agony, and grief which have befallen the Egyptian people and though tragic and criminal, this type of incident must be utilized to heighten our reliance on Allah (SWT) to cleanse our countries of injustices, oppression and tyranny. As we face unprecedented threat to the dignity and safety of human lives and society, we all must continuously pray hard and our prayers, at this critical time, must have more sincerity. That being the case, we wish to extend our deepest condolences to everyone affected, Muslim and non-Muslim.
We pray to Allah (SWT) to have mercy on the souls of the murder victims and to punish all evildoers who perpetuate and support acts of Terrorism. Lastly, MPAC urges the media to act responsibly and exercise self-restraint when reporting on these recurring attacks. Until the real perpetrators are brought to justice, all media reports on acts such as this should be balanced, accurate, restrained and sensitive.
