In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
(Lagos, Thursday, 02/10/2025) The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC), Nigeria, strongly condemns the unlawful interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla by Israeli forces in international waters, and the subsequent kidnapping of peace and humanitarian activists on board. The flotilla, which was carrying much-needed humanitarian supplies to the besieged people of Gaza with the expressed consent of the Palestinian authorities, was attacked in yet another flagrant violation of international law and human rights.
The activists on board – men and women of conscience representing the global civil society – embarked on this mission with the noble intention of bringing relief, solidarity, and hope to a population that has endured years of blockade, bombardment, and dehumanization. Their interception and unlawful detention is not only a savage act of piracy, it is also an affront to international maritime law and an attack on humanity itself.
This act underscores the disturbing pattern of impunity with which Israel, buoy by America’s deviant supports, continues to trample on international norms, deny the Palestinian people their inalienable rights, and obstruct global efforts to provide humanitarian support to Gaza. The siege on Gaza is already a humanitarian catastrophe – cutting off food, medicine, clean water, and electricity to millions of civilians. To now criminalize and brutalize those who attempt to extend solidarity and aid is unconscionable and indefensible.
MPAC calls on the international community, global institutions, and governments of conscience to urgently prevail upon Israel to:
– Immediately and unconditionally release all the kidnapped peace and humanitarian activists.
– Ensure safe passage and delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
– Hold Israel accountable for its repeated violations of international law and human rights conventions.
We remind the world that silence and inaction in the face of such brazen illegality and cruelty only embolden further aggression. The Palestinian people are entitled to dignity, freedom, and relief, and the international community has a moral and legal obligation to ensure that humanitarian corridors are respected.
The Global Sumud Flotilla was a symbol of hope and solidarity. Its interception is yet another reminder of the urgent need for the world to stand resolutely with justice, with humanity, and with Palestine.
