Day 11 – Replace One Harmful Habit
It’s 11 days to the blessed month of Ramadan.
As we approach Ramadan, it is the perfect time to reflect on ourselves and begin the process of personal transformation. Lasting spiritual growth does not happen overnight—it is built on small, consistent efforts. One of the most effective ways to prepare for Ramadan is to replace one harmful habit with a beneficial one, setting the tone for a month of conscious worship, self-discipline, and closeness to Allah.
Allah reminds us in the Qur’an:
إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُوا مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ
“Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.”
— Surah Ar-Ra‘d 13:11
This verse emphasizes the profound truth that transformation begins from within. No external circumstance can bring lasting change until we intentionally work on ourselves, whether it’s purifying our hearts, controlling our tongues, or improving our habits.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Be in this world as though you were a stranger or a traveler.”
— Sahih al-Bukhari 6416Read the full Hadith here: https://sunnah.com/bukhari:6416
This hadith encourages detachment from distractions that can weaken our spiritual focus. Being mindful of our actions, even in seemingly small matters, creates space for greater awareness and sincerity in our worship.
Reflection for Today:
-
Identify one habit that may be holding you back spiritually or emotionally—such as gossiping, negative thinking, impatience, or neglecting prayer.
-
Consider a positive habit to replace it with—like sending a kind message, making dhikr, reading Qur’an, or performing a voluntary act of charity.
-
Reflect on how this small step aligns with your goals for Ramadan and your desire to draw closer to Allah.
Action for Today:
✨ Choose one harmful habit and replace it with one beneficial act. Start small, be consistent, and make a sincere intention that this change is for Allah. Remember, gradual, intentional steps lead to profound, lasting transformation.
