At a time when division is loud and suspicion travels fast, faith communities must become the loudest voices for peace, justice, and shared humanity. World Interfaith Harmony Week is not just a calendar observance – it is a moral responsibility.

At the Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC), Nigeria, we believe that peaceful coexistence is not optional; it is essential for national stability, social progress, and human dignity. Our faith teaches us that diversity is not a threat – it is a divine design. And where there is difference, there must be dialogue; where there is misunderstanding, there must be education; and where there is hate, there must be principled resistance through peace.

This week, MPAC calls on Nigerians of all faiths to rise above stereotypes, reject bigotry, and commit to mutual respect. Interfaith harmony is not about blurring religious identities – it is about strengthening them through understanding, justice, and compassion.

We urge religious leaders, policymakers, educators, and citizens to:

– Promote respectful dialogue across faith lines
– Speak out against hate, discrimination, and religious profiling
– Protect freedom of belief and conscience
– Build partnerships for peace, development, and social cohesion

Harmony is not built by silence in the face of injustice. It is built by courageous voices, ethical leadership, and communities that choose peace over prejudice.

As we mark this week, let us move beyond symbolism to strategy, beyond words to action, and beyond tolerance to genuine respect.

Because when faith communities stand together, extremism loses ground, hatred weakens, and society grows stronger.

Peace is not passive. Harmony is not accidental. Unity is not automatic. They are built – deliberately, consistently, and collectively.

MPAC remains committed to defending dignity, promoting peaceful coexistence, and advancing a Nigeria where faith unites rather than divides.
