Press Release: MPAC Commends Nigeria’s Position on Palestinian Statehood, Urges Concrete Action to Match Words
(Lagos, Thursday, 25/09/2025) ‎The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) Nigeria warmly commends the unequivocal position of the Federal Government of Nigeria in reiterating the global consensus on the two-state solution, reaffirming the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to independence, freedom, and human dignity.
‎This principled stance is timely and necessary. As the UN General Assembly gathers at this historic moment of global solidarity, more nations are courageously stepping forward to recognize Palestine as a sovereign state. Their actions represent a long-overdue correction of decades of injustice endured by the Palestinian people under occupation, apartheid, and systemic human rights violations by Israel and its enablers.
‎Nigeria’s position aligns with its proud history of supporting liberation struggles and standing on the side of justice. However, noble words must now be matched with decisive actions. For Nigeria’s voice to carry true moral weight, we urge the government to:
1. Sanction the Zionist state for its relentless violations of international law, apartheid policies, and war crimes against the Palestinian people.
2. Join South Africa’s case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) – a legal and moral battle to hold Israel accountable for genocide and crimes against humanity.
3. Remove Israel and Israeli institutions from a list of security, intelligence sharing partners in our counter-terrorism efforts.
‎The recognition of Palestine as a state is not a gift to be bestowed but a right to be upheld. The international community cannot continue to look away while an entire people are denied their homeland, freedom, and security.
‎MPAC stands in full solidarity with the global movement for Palestinian statehood based on UN Resolutions and International Law. We will continue to amplify the voices of justice and call upon Nigeria to not only echo the global consensus but also lead in ensuring that the Palestinian people enjoy the independence, freedom, and human rights to which they are entitled.
‎Justice delayed is justice denied. Nigeria must act now.
